Mooloolaba to Maroochydore Active Transport Corridor
Sunshine Coast Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads are delivering a safe and inclusive corridor for people walking and riding between the new Maroochydore City Centre and Mooloolaba (M2M).
The 6 kilometre-long Maroochydore to Mooloolaba Active Transport Corridor (M2M) aims to improve the network for walking and riding between the new Maroochydore CBD and Brisbane Road in Mooloolaba (near the Mooloolah River).
This project is being delivered in seven stages as funding becomes available.
Project scope
The walking and riding infrastructure is designed to suit people of all ages and abilities to enable a direct and safe route. When complete, the M2M Active Transport Corridor will improve access and safety, reduce traffic congestion and improve the streetscape with additional street trees, redesigned car parking, landscaping, lighting and drainage.
For planning, construction and funding purposes, the corridor is split into seven stages:
Construction completed
- Stage 2 Brisbane Road north of Neerim Drive, Bindaree Crescent, Mayes Canal Bridge and River Espalande to Foote Street at Mooloolaba (completed by Council between 2012 and 2018 as part of the Minyama to Mooloolaba cycleway project).
Construction underway
- Stage 4 - Mooloolaba Foreshore Central Meeting Place – under construction 2025 (Council)

Where to from here
Community feedback is underway to better understand the issues and opportunities and the type of active transport infrastructure that is important to our community. The following stages are open for feedback between 3-28 November 2025:
- Maroochydore City Centre to Alexandra Headland
- River Esplanade from Parkyn Parade to Foote Street
- Mooloolaba Esplanade from Venning Street to Buderim Avenue delivered as part of Mooloolaba to University Active Transport Corridor, Stage 1
We will continue to inform our community as the project advances.
Overview
Community consultation and feedback has been an integral part of the development of the M2M Active Transport Corridor. An extensive stakeholder and community engagement process was undertaken to inform planning and progress to date.
On average more than 70,000 people per week ride bicycles on the Sunshine Coast. Council surveys show that bike riders in urban areas have increased by 30 per cent per annum in recent years.
The M2M Active Transport Corridor will encourage sustainable modes of transport and boost local tourism and economic development in line with Council's integrated transport strategy (adopted in December 2018) and the current Active Transport Plan 2011-2031.
Funding
Maroochydore City Centre to Alexandra Headland future design and delivery are subject to funding and further consultation.
River Esplanade, Mooloolaba Active Transport link is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.
