Sunshine Coast Council wants to make it easier for Buderim locals to get around their neighbourhood.

By extending Goshawk Boulevard 700 metres east to connect Stringybark Road to Power Road, residents will have easy access to local shops reduce their commute time as well as alleviate traffic congestion on adjacent streets.

This extension will also give locals the convenient option of using the new walking and riding pathways to get around.

Council invites you to have your say on Buderim’s Goshawk Boulevard extension concept design before Friday 28 November 2025.

View the concept design and share your feedback on Council’s Have Your Say website.

Project benefits

The extension will:

  • make it quicker and easier to drive, walk and ride between neighbourhoods north of the Sippy Downs Town Centre
  • allow Buderim residents near Power Road to walk to local shops on Goshawk Boulevard and access the new Stringybark Road pedestrian and cycling bridge
  • enable a second access point to the existing Atrium Buderim development, as required in the development approval
  • improve safety and traffic flow during emergencies by providing access for current and future residents living on Power Road, Buderim.

Project scope

The extension will deliver:

  • two traffic lanes (one lane in each direction)
  • two-way riding paths, separated from the road
  • walking paths
  • landscaping and street trees.

Project history

Planning for the Goshawk Boulevard extension transport link has been in place since the late 1990’s.

Land was progressively developed for housing and the first section of Goshawk Boulevard between Stringybark Road and Figbird Crescent was constructed.

In 2003 Council purchased land to provide two important outcomes for the community:

  • an environmental reserve
  • a transport corridor.

In 2007, Council completed a planning study on the connection of Stringybark Road to Power Road. This planning study considered environmental, social and economic issues.

Community consultation was undertaken on many potential alignment options. Council used the feedback to identify the preferred alignment for the transport corridor. Council adopted the Goshawk Boulevard extension at its Ordinary Meeting of September 2007. See endorsed alignment (PDF, 878KB).

Council selected the alignment to:

  • reduce the impact on specific environmentally valuable trees
  • reduce the severance impact of the future road on the environmental area.

This provided a greater connected area for environmental purposes.

Council reinforced its position on the need to provide the Goshawk Boulevard extension in the:

All plans involved community consultation and stakeholder engagement.

Where to from here

Goshawk Boulevard is proposed to be extended before, or in conjunction with, any development on the vacant land at 77 Power Road, Buderim.

While exact timeframes for construction are subject to the future budget allocations, Council are seeking community feedback now to help inform the detailed design phase.

The project team will continue to keep the community updated as this important project progresses.

Council is also planning the adjacent Power Road upgrade. This will integrate with the Goshawk Boulevard extension to Power Road. The timing of detailed design and construction is subject to future budget allocations.

Both projects will provide local connectivity and movement between Stringybark Road and Dixon Road.

In 2024, Council upgraded the intersection of Power and Dixon Roads to support these two future projects. Traffic signals were installed, turning lanes were added and dedicated crossings for walking and riding were constructed.
