BushCare Sunshine Coast’s silver mattock award is annually presented to a BushCare community volunteer for outstanding achievements. Joseph Fry was presented with the award in 2019.

Joseph Fry with his wife Sandy first started the Whalley Creek Bushcare Group 15 years ago. Whalley Creek is a riparian corridor within the Petrie Creek and Maroochy River catchment. Joseph has dedicated his time and progressed great results on the site with areas of planting, large tree removal and increasing the width of the riparian zone resulting in a dramatic increase in wildlife.

Joseph is passionate about his plants and wildlife and can always be found down at the creek, usually maintaining it.

Congratulations Joseph and thank you for the incredible hours you have put into the restoration of the creek.

The Whalley Creek Bushcare Group meet on the first Saturday of the month, 2–4pm. If you would like to join this group or other BushCare Sunshine Coast groups visit the Bushcare Community webpage for more information.
