How procurement works at Council
Council’s approach focuses on achieving best value for money, which means looking beyond price to consider factors such as quality, capability, risk, and broader social, economic and environmental outcomes.
Depending on the value and risk of the purchase, Council will generally:
- seek quotes from suppliers (including from an established supplier arrangement) for contracts with a value below $500,000
- release public tenders for contracts with a value of $500,000 or more, or
- establish supplier arrangements where similar goods or services are regularly required. Supplier arrangements are established through a public tender process.
To support businesses to better understand how to engage with Council, the Doing Business with Council fact sheet has been developed and provides practical guidance on procurement processes, Council’s strategic priorities and tips for identifying and responding to opportunities.
