I am an Australian Citizen and identify my cultural background as from African descent. Born originally in the former British Southern Cameroons of West Africa, my wife and I decided to move back to Australia from Europe in 2010. My wife originally grew up on the Sunshine Coast and wanted to call the region home again. I enjoy life with my wife and two boys, treasuring the little moments together. We prepare culturally traditional dishes as a family, and enjoy eating together, playing card games, adventuring outdoors, Football(soccer) enthusiastic family, long family cuddles, and lots of Afro music dance-offs!

I have lived on three continents, studied three degrees, and gained experience in more than seven industries. My professional career of over 19 years has developed experiences, knowledge, and skills from working as a soldier, teacher, professional organiser, manager, CEO, leader and as a volunteer. Throughout my life, my pursuit has always been about relationships keeping people and the community at the epicentre of what’s most valuable. I am a critical thinker, and I am passionate about justice for the disadvantaged.

In the last 13 years I have been proactive in gathering the African Diaspora Community together, leading me to build strong relationships within the entire multicultural community. Through this I identified social integration challenges and the need for stronger relationships within the wider community. My vision is more programs and opportunities are created that support the Multicultural community on the Sunshine Coast.

I founded Multicultural Sport out of the necessity to promote social cohesion and create opportunities for social integration. Since 2019, we have organised 3-4 Multicultural 7-Aside Football Cup events each year, bringing together thousands of players and spectators from diverse backgrounds across the Sunshine Coast and have extended it to Toowoomba, Brisbane and Logan.

These events, which celebrate and welcome everyone, provide significant social benefits by fostering a strong sense of unity and uplifting community spirit. The sight of young children and people from all backgrounds playing together in harmony and on the sidelines is a powerful reminder of the importance of these initiatives.

Inspired by this, we aim to continue and include other sports to encourage more community and multicultural/First Nations communities participation throughout the year.

Why did you become a patron for this campaign?

It is important to me that people recognise and understand the psychological and economic impacts of racism on our communities. Racism often goes unnoticed and unchallenged, yet it significantly reduces productivity in both businesses and society as a whole on top of the trauma to victims.

"If change is to happen, it requires action; action demands compassion, and compassion begins with information and awareness."

I became a patron because I believe that fighting racism requires a community-based approach. The African Diaspora Community and I need the broader community as allies to rise together, stand united, and call out racism. This campaign is one way I can invite the community to “do the work” alongside us—to stand up, speak up, and take action. I firmly believe that we cannot and should not remain silent on this issue.

The psychological impact and sense of loss are not only felt by the victims but by the entire community. For example, in the health sector, if our best medical professionals from multicultural backgrounds feel unsafe, excluded, or fearful of racial abuse—or are victimized for speaking out against racism—they may choose not to live or work in our region. This is a loss for us all. These individuals bring culturally diverse ideas, perspectives, and experiences that enrich both our healthcare system and our wider community. The same applies to all industries and sectors.

Having experienced racism in many forms over the past two decades, I understand the deep pain it causes—not just for myself but also for my community. This has driven and motivated me to become a voice and advocate of my community. Many community members are concerned that nothing will ever change. Raising awareness about the changes needed in our relationships regarding racism is essential to support the health and well-being of people facing racism. I encourage you to take a stand, take action, and do the work. Let’s support our multicultural communities, as they are an integral part of our broader community.
