Acid sulfate soil
Please use your local phone directory or the internet to find companies that dispose of acid sulfate soil.
Note: If the soil has been treated and a lab report is provided showing it no long contains any residual acidity – it could be considered as clean fill it meets all the requirements. Refer to clean fill or clean cover.

Asbestos
Asbestos disposal is temporarily unavailable at Nambour Landfill, Cooney Rd, Nambour.
Please contact council for disposal information. Asbestos removal is extremely hazardous, and council strongly recommends you use a licensed operator to carry out the removal to avoid long-term health risks.
- an application is required to dispose of asbestos: Disposal of asbestos application form (DOCX, 334KB).
- please submit application to council no later than 48 hours before the date you are planning to dispose of the asbestos.
- all asbestos waste must be accompanied by a regulated waste tracking certificate. Waste tracking certificates are available from Queensland Government website.
As a general guide, 250kg of typical flat asbestos cement sheet waste would occupy about a quarter of a trailer.
In addition, an environmental authority is required to self-haul more than 250kg asbestos waste, or otherwise transport more than 175kg of asbestos waste.

Asbestos in soil
Under Queensland Government rules, asbestos in soil is either handled as contaminated land or as regulated waste depending on the volumes and source of material. For further advice, visit the Asbestos transport and disposal page on the Queensland Government website.
To request disposal of soil, complete the Special waste disposal form.
For information on whether asbestos in soil is exempt from the waste levy, refer to DESI guideline.
Asphalt/bitumen
Asphalt and bitumen is accepted at Council’s waste facilities.
Notes: Nambour landfill site: trucks and waste greater than 4.5 tonnes are not accepted.

Batteries - single use, rechargeable, lead acid batteries
Batteries must be returned to safe drop off locations, including Council’s waste facilities. Batteries including battery powered devices never go in your waste, recycling or garden organics bins. They are hazardous, flammable and could start a fire in the truck or landfill.

Devices containing batteries must have casing removed.

Domestic quantities (maximum of 20L) of chemicals are accepted, at Council’s waste facilities.

Clean fill
Clean fill, from Sunshine Coast Council local government area is accepted for a fee.
- Load must contain 90% soil or similar spreadable clean fill material. Rocks must not be bigger than a bowling ball.
- No litter, large rocks, bricks or other contaminants.
- The material needs to be dry for disposal. Wet material will not be accepted.
- Disposal of 100m³ or more requires prior approval. Please download, complete and return the clean fill assessment form and return via email to wastedisposal@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
Note: Conditions apply. Buderim can accept small trailer loads of clean fill only (domestic loads / quantities per ute load.) Truck loads are not accepted.

Concrete, rocks or bricks
Clean concrete, rubble, bricks and masonry is suitable for recycling and can be taken to the following Council waste facilities:
- Clean hardened concrete and bricks – must contain less than 5% soil, grass or steel.
- Engineered stone, sandstone, granite or concrete with contaminants are not accepted for recycling. These items are classed as construction and demolition waste.
- Contact Council to confirm disposal of rocks
Note: From Monday 6 November 2023 concrete trucks, including pump out trucks, will no longer be allowed to wash out or dispose of liquid concrete slurry at our waste facilities. Only hardened concrete will be accepted.

Empty, clean and non-returnable steel and plastic chemical containers can be returned to a Drum MUSTER collection point available at some of Council waste facilities.

Electronics
E-waste/electronics items like TVs, printers, mobile phones, chargers and cameras are accepted at Council's waste facilities. These items never go in waste, recycling, and garden organics kerbside bins.
