Purpose

These guidelines will also assist the community make more informed lifestyle and investment decisions.

Background

The requirement for flood resilience in design is a concept that will benefit existing and new development. It will minimise potential consequences of flood inundation. This will give Sunshine Coast communities the opportunity to be better prepared for flood events with implications for affordable insurance.

Overview

Sunshine Coast Council is preparing new guidance on the design of flood resilient homes to support the proposed Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme (2025).

This draft guideline is unique in that it has been designed to work with the proposed Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme (2025) to assist property owners and designers with navigating the requirements that relate to flooding, stormwater and coastal hazards. References to Council’s planning scheme in this document should be interpreted to mean Council’s proposed planning scheme (2025).

Feedback on this draft guideline document is welcomed.

This guideline will be revised based on consideration of the feedback received and changes associated with the finalisation of the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme (2025). Users of this document should ensure that they revisit this webpage in future to source the latest version of this document.

History

Two flood resilience guidelines were previously prepared for the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014 developed to assist the community to improve flood resilience:

Aspects of these guidelines were superseded by 2019 guidance on flood resilient homes prepared by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
