The Adaptation Game (TAG) Sunshine Coast
How prepared are you for our changing climate on the Sunshine Coast?
Sunshine Coast Council is inviting community members to take part in an interactive board game called The Adaptation Game.
The Adaptation Game helps people understand how climate change affects our lives now and in the future.
It looks at:
- extreme weather events like heatwaves, floods and bushfires
- longer-term changes such as hotter temperatures, rising sea levels and heavier rainfall
The game helps people think about what these changes could mean for them, their families, and their community over time.
It also focuses on practical actions that individuals and communities can take to prepare for and recover from climate-related events.
How does the game work?
- The game is based on scientific research and local Sunshine Coast stories
- you play as yourself in everyday life
- you play with three other people
- together, you work through different scenarios and make decisions about how to respond.
The goal is to think ahead and plan how we can be better prepared for climate-related weather events as a community.
A trained facilitator will guide you through the game and support you along the way.
Why should I play?
Many people feel worried or overwhelmed when thinking about climate change. The Adaptation Game helps turn concern into positive action.
By playing the game, you can:
- learn simple things you can do at home or in your neighbourhood
- understand how your actions connect with others
- hear different viewpoints and experiences
- build confidence and resilience
- connect with people in your community
People often leave feeling inspired, more informed, and ready to take small steps that suit their own situation.
How does Council support this work?
The game also introduces Council programs and projects that support community resilience.
Players can:
- learn what support is available
- give feedback on what would be helpful in real-life situations
The Adaptation Game is an important part of Council’s work to help the community be ready, confident, and strong together.
What happens next?
Council is inviting expressions of interest from:
- individuals interested in sustainability and climate action
- community groups and neighbourhood centres
- local businesses and not-for-profit organisations
- schools and educators
