Our region is home to amazing wildlife–but invasive animals like feral pigs, deer, cats, foxes, wild dogs, rabbits and pest turtles threaten that balance. They damage crops, harm pets, spread disease and put pressure on our native species.

Why it matters here

  • Environmental harm: Loss of native plants and animals in our bushland and waterways.
  • Community impact: Road hazards, garden damage, and risks to pets and livestock.
  • Economic cost: Farmers, community and governments spend thousands managing pests.

Your role

Under Queensland's Biosecurity Act 2014, everyone must help reduce invasive animal risks. On the Sunshine Coast, that means:

  • secure fences and remove attractants like pet food, fallen fruit or excess poultry food
  • report sightings early
  • work with neighbours–cooperation is key.

Smart control

Use safe, humane methods.

Commit. Collaborate. Celebrate.

  • Commit to action on your property.
  • Collaborate with your community and Council.
  • Celebrate a healthier Sunshine Coast for people and wildlife.
