Christmas bells

This beautiful flowering species primarily in open swampy areas or heath.

Christmas time has began

The Christmas bells (Blandfordia grandiflorum) have begun flowering on the coast in the final weeks of November, signalling the festive season has begun. The one pictured is located in a swampy open melaleuca wetland out at Landsborough, in Racemosa environment reserve, with another 30 or so plants.

This beautiful flowering species is Critically Endangered and occurs primarily in open swampy areas or heath with dense shrub, grass and sedge ground layer, which it disappears into when not flowering.

You can see this flower at this location as well as Glasshouse Mountains scientific area, Mooloolah River national park, Currimundi (Kathleen McArthur) conservation park.
