The plan will assist the future development of sport and active recreation in Coolum and the surrounding region.

Purpose

The Coolum Sports Complex Master Plan provides a long term vision for the sports complex (2011-2026). The master plan identifies what the complex should look like and how it should function in the future.

Key recommendations

Key recommendations of the Coolum Sports Complex Master Plan include:

  • improved pedestrian and vehicle connectivity and movement - under development
  • additional junior fields / ovals and car parking
  • ability to adapt to future changes in demand for playing fields.

Where to from here

The adoption of the master plan provides council and stakeholders with a sound base to lobby the state and federal governments for funding. This will be conducted in partnership with the Sports Complex Management Committee, the community and council.

Sporting facilities play an important role in the local community. Master planning helps to provide infrastructure which reflects community need.

The Coolum Sports Complex Master Plan considers:

  • arrangements and uses of the site
  • the landscape
  • trends and issues
  • catchment areas and population demands
  • car parking and traffic movement.

Background

The Coolum Sports Complex is located in the north of Coolum, surrounded by the Noosa National Park. The site covers an area of about 17 hectares.

There are currently 8 sports available which include:

  • rugby league
  • cricket
  • netball
  • tennis
  • croquet
  • soccer
  • swimming.

The Coolum Sports Complex provides open space for formal and informal recreation to promote wellbeing.
