Australia Day citizen award - Linese Norrish
Introducing winner, Linese Norrish.
Coolum and North Shore Coast Care member Linese Norrish was presented with the ‘Citizen of the Year’ Award at the Coolum Beach Lions Club 2018 Australia Day Awards.
In addition to many other local community and environmental advocacy duties that Linese fulfils, she is a Coast Care member and formed Coolum’s ‘Watercourse Warriors’ in 2006.
The group has been successfully working towards the restoration of bushland vegetation in and adjacent to a drainage line that extends from Coolum’s Lions Park and flows north until it enters Stumers Creek. Over the years she has assembled a very willing band of helpers, and in particular has reached out and encouraged some of the less fortunate community members to participate in this very healthy pursuit while engaging with other members of the group.
Linese is also the ‘Social Secretary’ of Coolum and North Shore Coast Care.
The Stumers Watercourse Warriors carry out working bees every Monday and Thursday morning. The group meets at 9am at Stumers Creek Road near beach access 71 and everyone is welcome.Council held a special Australia Day awards ceremony in Woombye on 24 January 2018 to help celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups in the region.
