Walk it, ride it – help shape it!
Do you walk or ride a bike to travel about your community? You’re using active transport and now’s the time to help shape some new active transport projects connecting more people in our community.

Sunshine Coast Council is planning new active transport links to help people walk, ride and move around our communities more safely and easily – and you’re invited to help shape the journey.
Visit the Sunshine Coast Active Transport Hub and have your say on the active transport projects planned to help people move about more easily within Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland and Sippy Downs.
These links are designed for everyone – no matter your age, gender or ability – and will support people who walk, ride bikes or use mobility aids to move about.
Sunshine Coast Council Transport Portfolio Councillor Winston Johnston said the projects were about creating safer, more inclusive streets and paths.
“We want to make it easier for people to choose active ways of getting around,” Cr Johnston said.
“These new links will help calm traffic, especially near schools and busy areas, and give people more options to connect safely with key places like shopping centres, sports grounds, public transport and parks.”
Three major links are now open for community input:
- River Esplanade Mooloolaba Active Transport Link – first round of engagement: Council is presenting concept designs for two options near Charles Clark Park. You are invited to provide feedback on safety issues and opportunities along this route, that extends from Parkyn Parade to the existing separated path at Foote Street.
- Maroochydore City Centre to Alexandra Headland Active Transport Link – first round of engagement: view the study area and provide feedback on key issues and opportunities prior to the project starting. Community input will help identify alignment options for walking and riding, safety concerns and ideas for improvement within the study area.
- Mooloolaba to University Active Transport Corridor – second round of engagement: view concept designs and provide feedback on the proposed paths, crossings and other key features.
- Stage 1 – Mooloolaba foreshore to Palm Avenue
- Stage 2 – Amarina Avenue to Karawatha Drive
- Stage 3 – Kawana Drive Active Transport link (Molakai Drive to Golf Links Drive)
- Stage 6 – Stringybark Road Active Transport link (Ballinger Road to Sunshine Motorway)
Have your say
“This is your chance to help shape the future of transport in your neighbourhood,” Cr Johnston said.
“We want to hear what’s working, what’s missing and what matters most to you.
“We’ve listened to our community in earlier engagement stages of the Mooloolaba to University active transport link, and now we’re bringing forward designs that reflect your ideas – and we’re asking if we’ve got it right.
“For the Maroochydore City Centre to Alexandra Headland link, we want to hear from the community early in this process so your feedback can genuinely help shape the study area and guide potential route options before they’re developed.”
Community consultation is open between 3 and 28 November 2025. Visit Council’s Have your Say website to view the projects and share your feedback.
Safe, accessible, enjoyable
Transport Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson said Council aimed to deliver connected, safe and sustainable transport systems for the region, ensuring all members of the community could move around safely and enjoyably.
“On average more than 70,000 people per week ride bicycles on the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Dickson said.
“Walking and riding play an increasingly important transport role now and in the future, and we’re planning now to enable safer and healthier ways to move around.”

Next steps and timing
Following community engagement, Council will review the feedback and looks forward to sharing the outcomes of the consultation with the community.
River Esplanade, Mooloolaba Active Transport Link – Council will consider feedback on the concept designs and finalise a detailed design, so it best reflects the needs of the local community.
Maroochydore City Centre to Alexandra Headland – Council will gather community input on alignment options and infrastructure type in Stage 1, then explore options in stage 2 in early 2026.
Mooloolaba to University Stages 1, 2 and 3 – Council will produce the final design in early 2026 and move to delivery of the projects in 2026 and 2027. The final design for Stage 6 will be produced mid-2026.
