We are looking at ways to help protect Golden Beach and Caloundra (Bulcock Beach) and reduce the risk of coastal hazards and flooding now and into the future.

This study is specifically looking at how we can build stronger and more resilient public assets and infrastructure which in turn help to reduce these risks for the local community.

These investigations were identified in the Sunshine Coast Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy (completed in 2021), which recommended that Council should seek to identify options to mitigate adverse impacts associated with coastal hazards at Golden Beach.

The need for these investigations has been intensified by the Bribie Island breakthrough in January 2022, which has resulted in increased water levels in Pumicestone Passage - our community is now experiencing the impacts of coastal hazards, including inundation.

Find out more on some of the approaches we will investigate at Golden Beach and Caloundra (Bulcock Beach) in Information Sheet - Coastal Hazard Adaptation Precinct Planning Investigation - Golden Beach and Caloundra (Bulcock Beach).

Funding

Council has been successful in obtaining funding from the National Emergency Management Agency via the Coastal and Estuarine Risk Mitigation Program 22-23 to support the Golden Beach investigations.

Investigation area

The investigation will explore adaptation options for the area from Bulcock Beach to Bells Creek.

Community engagement opportunities

We value our community’s knowledge and input into these investigations. There will be multiple opportunities for our community and key stakeholders to be involved throughout the project.

Protecting the local values and character at Golden Beach are critical criteria that will be considered as we assess possible mitigation options.

We need your input and invite you to have your say on existing values within Golden Beach and Caloundra (Bulcock Beach). Please tell us what is important to you by visiting Have Your Say Sunshine Coast to share your feedback by November 25, 2024.
