Waste facilities Conditions of Entry
Conditions of Entry apply to all Sunshine Coast Council waste management and resource recovery facilities.
Sunshine Coast Council provides 8 waste disposal and resource recovery centres across the region.
- Beerwah resource recovery centre
- Buderim resource recovery centre
- Caloundra Landfill and resource recovery centre
- Kenilworth resource recovery centre
- Mapleton resource recovery centre
- Nambour landfill and resource recovery facility
- Witta resource recovery centre
- Yandina resource recovery centre.
We aim to provide safe, welcoming and respectful facilities for use by all within the community and we take everyone’s safety very seriously. That is why we have a set of site entry conditions at all waste disposal and resource recovery centres in the Sunshine Coast region.
These Conditions of Entry apply to all Sunshine Coast Council waste disposal and resource recovery centres (inclusive of retail markets).
This means that anybody entering these sites agree to follow these conditions upon entry.
Conditions of Entry
Persons entering this site must comply with the following conditions of entry:
- Offensive and abusive language and/or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.
- Full adherence to all traffic rules including the displayed speed limit signs is mandatory.
- All vehicles must give way to site machinery.
- Compliance with signage and requests of site staff is mandatory at all times.
- Maintain reasonable community dress standards.
- Suitable enclosed footware is mandatory. Bare feet, thongs or sandals are not permitted.
- Dispose of waste and recyclables only in the approved locations (management reload fees apply for any waste incorrectly declared or disposed of in incorrect area).
- Children must be supervised and remain in the vehicle at all times.
- Animals must be restrained and remain in vehicles at all times.
- Unlawful entry, unauthorised scavenging and unauthorised disposal of waste is prohibited.
- Any waste not clearly identified on the site signage cannot be accepted at this site (examples of waste not accepted at this site include explosives or radioactive materials).
- Lighting of fires or smoking or vaping (inc. e-cigarettes) is prohibited at this site.

To ensure the safety of staff and customers, site staff reserve the right to:
- refuse entry or remove persons that do not follow the conditions of entry.
- ban a person from future entry of one or more waste disposal and resource recovery centres, and
- resort to public prosecution if needed.

Persons entering a waste disposal facility and resource recovery centre are advised that 24-hour closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording is undertaken. Surveillance is undertaken in accordance with Sunshine Coast Council’s Optical Surveillance Policy.
Important Notice
Camera surveillance operates in this area for community safety purposes and in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (QLD). Footage will only be accessed by persons authorised to do so and may be provided to the Queensland Police Service for law enforcement purposes.

Response to Breaching the Conditions of Entry
Response to Breaching the Conditions of Entry
The initial response to breaching the conditions will be to alert the offending person to the fact their behaviour/action is contrary to the conditions. A warning or direction (or both) may be given by site staff.
Failure to comply with any reasonable direction by site staff to rectify a breach or repeated breaches of the conditions may result in the offender being banned from entry and use of Sunshine Coast waste disposal and resource recovery centres.
Except in the event of dangerous or unlawful behaviour at which time an immediate ban can be imposed under the authority of the delegated officer, a written notice of intention to ban will be issued to persons in breach of the conditions together with the opportunity to respond. In order that the nature of the breach is fully understood, specific details of the breach will be provided with the notice of intention to ban. The delegated council officer will properly consider any response received to the proposed ban before making any decision.
A person who enters any Sunshine Coast waste disposal and resource recovery centres while they are under a ban is trespassing and may be reported to the Queensland Police Service. A person who is trespassing may also be prosecuted under Queensland law.

A person who has been banned may appeal to the Chief Executive Officer, Sunshine Coast Council in writing within 7 days. The appellant must be informed of a decision within 28 days of receipt of the appeal.
