State Election priorities for our region
Sunshine Coast Council's request to all 2024 State election parties.
The 2024 State general election will be held on 26 October 2024. The outcome of the election will shape the future of Queensland, and the future of our Sunshine Coast.
Council is seeking more efficient, accessible and reliable public transport, easing traffic congestion, investment in innovation and social housing support.
Council have a several succinct advocacy priorities, including:
- A State government commitment to fund $6.5 billion. This is required to extend the proposed direct Sunshine Coast rail line to Maroochydore before 2032.
- A State government commitment to fund and deliver the $160 million Mooloolah River Interchange upgrade.
- $25 million to
- support the establishment of the Sunshine Coast Innovation Hub in Maroochydore CBD
- upgrade of the University Innovation Centre.
These will deliver significant jobs and economic benefits to Queensland.
- Support for social housing. Needing to increase social housing in the region from 1.9 per cent to 5 per cent over the next term of the Queensland Government.
- A State government commitment that Halls Creek be removed as a potential future growth area.
