The Sunshine Coast is one of the leading major event and tourism destinations in Australia.

Over the past year, the region has played host to several major events and competitions including:

  • Australian Surf Life Saving Championships ('The Aussies')
  • Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast
  • Mooloolaba Triathlon
  • The Rugby Championship – U20’S
  • Sunshine Coast Marathon
  • Queensland Garden Expo
  • Australian Wearable Art
  • The Curated Plate Food & Drink Festival
  • Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival

The Sunshine Coast has established a reputation as a destination of choice to host major events. Our region has natural and man-made assets for event organisers to choose from. All types of major events are well accommodated, either along the beaches, roads or pathways, or at stadiums, public venues and parklands.

Our region is easily accessible with its own international airport linking to 55 Australian cities as well as New Zealand. More than four million people reside within a 2-hour drive to the Sunshine Coast. It's a one-hour drive from Brisbane, plus train and bus options.

The region is a desirable visitor destination which drives attendance to major events. Participants choosing which events to attend are drawn to the region’s attractions and climate and the opportunity to extend their stay before or after the event. Not just for their chosen event activity, but also for the vacation and relaxation options available during their stay.

We have one of the most enviable climates in Australia with an average of seven hours of sunshine 300 days per year and an average temperature of 25.5 degrees (72.5 Fahrenheit). For a detailed overview of the region as a destination go to Visit Sunshine Coast.
