The Keeper Project is a live public art project where artists work in a temporary role as observer, collector, maker and storyteller within a community. The Keepers are archaeologists of stories.

History of The Keeper

The project was developed in collaboration with Field Theory and piloted in Coolum in November 2019 with four Sunshine Coast based artists and a number of community groups.

The Keeper Project 2022 took place in Coolum. It involved over 10 Sunshine Coast based artists and creative practitioners along with numerous local community groups and businesses. The project commenced in May 2022 and unfolds until July 2023. It is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund and Queensland Arts Showcase Program.

Learn more about the project on the Keeper Project website.

The Keeper - 2024

Led by Red Chair, there is an opportunity for ten established artists living in Nambour or surrounds to become a Keeper during 2024. Each artist takes the role of The Keeper for three weeks.

During this time, successful artists will perform/repeat a ritual or practice that will occur in the Nambour area, designed to engage community in a gentle way, at certain times each week.

Each artist will design their own schedule and receive $1000 (GST exc.) stipend per week. There will be an additional payment for material expenses (up to $1000 per Keeper).

Artist applications for The Keeper 2024 in Nambour close midday Wednesday 31 January 2024.
Applicants will be notified of the EOI outcome within two weeks of the closing date.
