Where parking your bike is now a breeze
More bike parking facilities for Maroochydore.
Parking in Maroochydore just got easier with a new BikeHub offering new spaces to park your wheels.
This initiative is part of Sunshine Coast Council’s ThinkChange program, which aims to support sustainable travel choices and enhance our community’s cycling experience.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 8 Councillor Taylor Bunnag said Council was pleased the BikeHub would offer more bike parking facilities in Maroochydore.
“The BikeHub is in response to a longstanding number of customer enquiries seeking bicycle parking near the Duporth Avenue entrance to the Big Top Shopping Centre,” Cr Bunnag said.
“This facility makes the most of the bike parking space without affecting pedestrian amenity and accessibility.
“It also reflects the shared zone status of the Duporth roadway section.
“This is a significant step towards promoting sustainable travel and enhancing the overall urban experience in Maroochydore.
“The BikeHub features parking for up to 10 bikes or scooters and smart camera monitoring to enable us to accurately evaluate its use during the trial period.
“We encourage everyone to take advantage of this new free facility and provide us with their feedback.”
Additionally, there is plenty of alternative car parking available in the Big Top multi-storey car park, ensuring convenience for all visitors.
The concept has been successfully implemented in other locations such as the Gold Coast and Adelaide, demonstrating its effectiveness and community benefits.
Centre Manager of Big Top Shopping Centre Jennifer Spratling said the centre was proud to support Council’s initiative to install a BikeHub on Duporth Avenue.
“This is a fantastic initiative by Sunshine Coast Council and a brilliant example of sustainable innovation,” Ms Spratling said.
“It's exciting to see a single car space transformed to accommodate up to ten travellers, promoting a greener and more vibrant precinct.
“Big Top Shopping Centre is thrilled to support such a distinctive and community-focused project.”
This initiative will assist in optimising traffic flow along the roadway and align with Council’s new placemaking strategy for Duporth Avenue.
The trial is underway and will gauge the facility’s effectiveness and gather community feedback to ensure it meets the needs of Maroochydore residents.
