The Department of Transport and Main Roads administers both the Queensland Disability Parking Permit Scheme (DPPS) and the Australian Disability Parking Scheme (ADPS) and issues permits to people with impaired mobility.
Using your disability parking permit
Note: The Department of Transport and Main Roads set out the entitlements for Disability Parking Permit holders and council applies these entitlements when patrolling parking across the region.
Disability parking bays fact sheet (DOCX, 325KB)
The Australian Disability Parking Permit must be clearly displayed on the vehicle so that the permit number and expiry date are visible from the kerbside of the vehicle. The permit holder should also check the permit for any other conditions in relation to the placement of the permit.
Council encourages motorists to display their permits on the passenger side. This enables the officers to read the permit from the footpath instead of from the road, to ensure their safety.
Under the Queensland Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995, there are different levels of parking concessions depending on the permit.
For full terms and conditions related to using the permits, check the Queensland Government website or the conditions printed on the permit.
